Connecticut Sun Shooters Are On Fire

Connecticut shot 49% from the field making 27-of-55 shots, including shooting 9-for-18 from 3-point range to beat the Sacramento Monarchs 72-56 Friday night. The Sun also shot just shy of perfect from the free throw line making 9-for-10.

Asjha Jones led the Sun with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocked shots. Lindsay Whalen added 9 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

“I think it was our defense that got our offense going,” said coach Mike Thibault. “We also did a good job of taking care of the ball and not giving them second chances.”

The Monarchs couldn’t stop Connecticut in the first half. Barbara Turner put up 12 points, including 2 3’s to give the Sun a 22-17 lead in the first quarter. By half time the Sun had built a 13-point lead, 42-33. In the third, the Monarchs made a small run but Connecticut held on to close the period 56-45.
